La Maison D'art - Nicole Karam

Artist Nicole Karam was born in Beirut Lebanon. Having spent her childhood while Lebanon's civil war raged, some of her early works such as those displayed in her first exhibition at an art gallery in Kaslik when she was 17, showed the influence of political conflict. since then she has had numerous exhibitions in Lebanon. She studied Fine Arts at the Lebanese University of Beaux-Arts in Beirut. Her studies were interrupted in 1990 when the university was hit during the civil war. Nicole then moved to the United States in 1991 where she participated in numerous exhibitions; for instance at the Cigi Gallery in St. Louis and at Centennial Bank in ST Louis MO in 1992. At these galleries she showed a series of paintings about Lebanon. Her work was described in an article on the front page of a local St. Louis newspaper with the title “Reflections of a New Life”. In 1997 Nicole had the opportunity to work as an art consultant at a well-known art gallery called Wenworth in St Louis MO where she sold the work of famous artists like Charles Fazzino, Alexandra Nechita, Tarkay, and many others. Nicole returned to Lebanon in 2008 with her husband and 4 children.

In 2014, Nicole was inspired to produce a series of paintings that pay tribute to the master artists of the ages beginning with Sandro Botticelli's "The birth of Venus" painted in the mid 1480s and ending with "The Wounded Deer" by Frida Kahlo painted in 1946.This series took three years to accomplish. In 2016, she opened her own art gallery called “La Maison d’Art” in Ashrafieh, Beirut where these acrylic paintings are displayed.

After years of painting Nicole found her identity in contemporary/cubism art, both in sculpting and in painting, using a vibrant color palette on her sculptures gave them a unique style.

Nicole’s latest series "Libanaise" is displayed at La Maison D’art, so is the Faces series, in both sculptures and paintings.
